be strong – stay young
I have discovered first hand that being strong keeps you young! But don’t just believe me - scientific research has also proven it to be true. Organizations such as the America Medical Association, the National Center for Disease Control and the American College of Sports Medicine have conducted studies that all agree: weight training keeps you young!
• Stay Young
• Burn Fat
• Strong is Sexier
• Feel Good Hormones
• Improved Performance
• Live Healthier
Stay Young
By making our body work harder through weight training we force it to grow stronger and stay younger. Muscle and connective tissue are our body’s supporting structure. As we age they deteriorate unless given regular stimulus. Studies have proven that regular and progressive weight training activates our body to repair and regenerate. Being strong can turn back the biological clock making us feel and look younger - inside and out.
Burn Fat
Over time our muscle density declines and our metabolism falls, so we consume fewer calories and get fatter. By increasing our muscle mass we can raise our metabolism by up to 20%! Strength training not only burns calories but our body has to work harder to repair our muscle tissues even after our workout is finished. This combined with increased muscle mass means our overall resting metabolic rate increases, so we burn more calories even when we are sleeping! Being strong helps to increase our metabolism and keep us lean.
Strong is Sexier
Becoming strong means not only feeling sexier but better sex. By being strong we feel more sexually attractive and our sexual confidence is improved in and out of the bedroom. Weight training also increases our sexual desire, performance and pleasure. Working out at 70 percent of our VO2 max1 we can experience an increase in the hormones vital to feeling sexual (40% increase in free testosterone2 , a 38% increase in cortisol and an increase in epinephrine). These higher hormonal levels all contribute to a heightened libido or sex drive. And because weight training helps the body circulate blood more efficiency we experience better sexual performance and more pleasure! This vascularization effect also stimulates muscle and affects erectile-tissue circulation, which is critical to penile/clitoral erection, sensitivity and pleasure. Especially for women, weight training makes it easier to reach orgasm. Both men and women can experience more intense orgasms and greater sexual satisfaction. Being strong means being sexier, inside and out!
Feel Good Hormones
Strength training releases endorphins into our system which gives us a natural feeling of euphoria. It also counter acts stress and pain. Weight training stimulates the production of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. This elevates our mood, helps us feel more confident. Not only do we feel fantastic because we look great, but the body’s chemical response to training dramatically improves our mood and disposition. Being strong means living on a natural high!
Improved Performance
Strength training improves our physical and mental performance. We improve our capacity to cope with the demands of our everyday life. By developing sport specific exercises we can improve our endurance and speed for greater success. Exercise not only enhances our brain performance by increasing the flow of oxygen for new cell growth but it boosts substances that help grow new cells and also increases our neurotransmitters with facilitate cognitive skills like attention, memory and speed of thinking. Being strong helps us achieve more - mentally and physically!
Live Healthier
Regular weight training improves our overall health and quality of life. It strengthens our immune system, increases our physical resilience, lowers blood pressure, elevates good cholesterol and lowers the likelihood of suffering a heart attack or stroke. Strength training is so powerful that the American Heart Association now recommends it for patients in cardiac rehabilitation programs. Studies have also shown that weight training has a positive impact on perception of pain3. Conditions such as back and neck pain, arthritic pain and osteoporosis have been shown to improve with strength training. Being strong improves your quality of life and longevity!
Whether you want to look fantastic, feel great, lean up, have better sex or get healthier - weight training can change your life forever. I know it’s true, because I personally have discovered all of these benefits first hand!
1.VO2 max (also maximal oxygen consumption, maximal oxygen uptake or aerobic capacity) is the maximum capacity of an individual's body to transport and utilize oxygen during incremental exercise, which reflects the physical fitness of the individual.
2. Some testosterone is bound to molecules such as SHBG (sex hormone binding globuline). When it's bound, it does not contribute to the feeling of sexual desire. Free testosterone on the other hand enhances our hormonal based sexual desire.
